2006-2007

Oct 29/06: REVISITING CHRISTIANITY AS A UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST
Some Unitarians train for ministry in a Unitarian theological school. June chose to go to Waterloo Lutheran, which is a Christian seminary. This has been challenging and at times like walking through a theological minefield. Mostly, though, it has strengthened her commitment to Unitarianism and helped her reclaim spiritual truths in Christianity, which she had previously rejected. Distinguishing between logos and mythos thinking has helped this process. At this halfway point in becoming a minister, June will reflect on her journey.
Speaker: June Gilbertson
Service Leader: Catharina Walhout

Oct 22/06: CELEBRATING OUR GENEROSITY
This church would not exist if not supported entirely by its members and friends who contribute their energy, time, skills, wisdom, advice and moneys. Today we celebrate our generosity, which stimulates the good work this church does for its members and the community around us and in other parts of the world, as we are part of the interdependent web of all existence. Please bring Potluck Finger food to extend the celebration during Coffee Time after.
Speaker: Chris Nye
Service Leader: Ellen Papenburg

Oct 15/06: AROMA THERAPY - MORE THAN JUST A NICE AROMA
Come explore the art and science of Aroma Therapy - using the aromatic essences of plants to support you physically, emotionally and spiritually. (For those of you with scent sensitivities, please note that there will be no scenting of the room during this presentation.)
Speaker: Karen Murtagh
Service Leader: Ellen Papenburg

Oct 8/06: EVERY BEING
UFETA member and animal protection advocate Marisa Miller poses the question; do the seven Unitarian Universalist principles really reflect our ideals with regard to animals? Does the seventh principle really protect animals from violence and exploitation or should we upgrade the first principle to include animals as well?
Speaker: Marisa Miller
Service Leader: Jim Sannes

Oct 1/06: ENCOUNTERS WITH AFRICAN SPIRTUALITIES
Details of our trip to Africa and considering issues of land, community and spirituality. Speakers: Terisa Turner & Leigh Brownhill

Sept 24/06: THERE OUGHTTA BE A LAW -OR OUGHT THERE?
In this, the second of Laura Mitchell's Systems Thinking series, we explore in more detail a system that we all interact with in some way in our professional and personal lives. This discussion is centred around the interface between our personal power and the power of the system "out there". Let's have some fun considering ways to change the system from within ourselves.
Speaker: Laura Mitchell
Service Leader: Jim Sannes

Sept 17/06: THE POWER OF ASKING DEEPER QUESTIONS
Alan Jones, Dean of Grace Cathedral in San Francisco (Anglican) caught my attention last year on CBC's Tapestries program, by saying that the purpose of religion is to help us ask deeper questions. This service will be a reflection on this very Unitarian concept.
Speaker: Linda Reith
Service Leader: Catharina Walhout

Sept 10/06: PANCAKE BREAKFAST KICK-OFF
We launch a new church year with our annual pancake breakfast. No service. Children especially welcome!
