Fergus Contra Dancing

Contra Dance, sometimes described as New England folk dance, is like a combination of French court dance and English country dances - and are seen as an ancestor of modern square dancing. It is a good workout for the body and the brain. If you can walk briskly and tell your right hand from your left, you can contra!

Yes, there will be more contra dancing! We have planned our monthly dances until the summer, so download our new flyer and put the dates on your Calendar!

Our dances are usually the fourth Friday of the Month. Check the upcoming dates below.

2013 Contra Dances

New contra dances have been planned until the Summer. Come and join us!

Dances are held at the Victoria Park Field House, 140 Albert St. West, in Fergus. Dancing starts at 8pm.


  • $10 per person
  • $8 students
  • Youth (with an adult) free

Contra dance enthusiast Janice Ferri along with friends from the Elora Fergus Unitarian Church and support from the band “Relative Harmony” organized the first two contra dances in July and August of 2011, followed by dances in October and November.
